Mrs Shameen Rajbansi, has motioned the KZN Legislature, during Youth month, to introduce a Youth Employment Law; which will also be forwarded to the National Parliament.
Mrs Rajbansi said that the youth must have the ability to engage in
extra – parliamentary political activity because this is what liberal democracies are all about.
She was sceptic about the creation of the NYDA (National Youth Development Agency) which marked June 16th because the previous youth fund agency only served a selected few.
She said that the government should do more for youth citizens beyond, involving them for periodic voting during elections.
The youth, she emphasized, should be assertive and influence, unfair policies such as affirmative action.
Hence, the MF has called for a Youth Employment Law, which will create sustainable jobs for our largely unemployed youth population.
Such a law, will make skilling and training of the youth mandatory.
Trade Unions can play a positive role as a pressure group to make this law a reality.
Students, especially should think of forming a social movement which involves itself in policy making, so that issues affecting the youth can be highlighted and remedied.
A Youth Employment Law will have positive spin-offs for the South African economy and for the well-being of our employable workforce, said Mrs Rajbansi.
