Minority Front Councillor Patrick Pillay is seen with Mr Roy Singh whose property wall was damaged and Mr Charles Govender and Guru Ashley Ramroop at the high risk accident zone in Ottawa.
A tragic vehicle accident at the corner of Gazzard and Old Main Road totally destroyed the secured guard rails and damaged the wall of the Mr Roy Singh’s property. Minority Front Councillor Patrick Pillay said that this particular spot on the Ottawa Old Main Road is accident prone and many vehicles veered of the main road and smashed into the guard rails and always damages Mr Roy’s Singh property.
Mr Roy Singh said that it is costing him a lot of money to continuously repair his wall. One year his wall was totally destroyed and our family have to live in fear not knowing when another vehicle is going to smash into their property.
My family have to literally stay away from our boundary wall for fear of a potential accident. Something must be done to permanently prevent another accident and also to protect our property, said Mr Singh.
Councillor Patrick Pillay said that the Minority Front have motivated to the Ethekwini Transport Authority to secure a double guard rail with concrete holders that will strengthen the impact and also protect Mr Singh’s property and family from potential danger. Also I want to request motorist to always drive with caution on the Ottawa Old Main Road because a lot of pedestrians uses this road for easier access to the railway station and retail stores.
He further said that he has also requested the Ethekwini Transport Authority to investigate other mitigating measures such as traffic calming measures and signage’s that will assist the process of road safety for motorist, the community and properties.
