Minority Front Councillor Patrick Pillay is seen with irate residents, in Newtownpark, who are without electricity for four days.
Minority Front Councillor Patrick Pillay said that there are a number of residents in Phoenix whom did not have electricity for more than four days. “On Wednesday afternoon, I had a meeting with some residents in Newtownpark who expressed dissatisfaction in the manner in which the electricity faults are handled by the department. The community was very frustrated that the stuffs they had in their fridges was spoilt and many of them are grantees whom have purchased food stuffs for the next three weeks”, said Councillor Pillay.
Councillor Pillay further said that in light of these problems and others, the Minority Front has called on the Head of Electricity to investigate the reasons for the lengthy delays in repairing electricity faults and the long waiting periods people have to wait before the electricity call centre can answer their calls. It is understandable that the catastrophic storms we had recently have created major problems for the city, but it is equally necessary for the ratepayers to be given straight answers to the delays of fault repairs.
Mr Rajen Sewburan, a resident in Sastripark said that when the community approached him to call on the MF Councillor Patrick Pillay to address them on the electricity and other flooding issues, Councillor Pillay availed himself. Councillor Pillay advised us on the problems and we appreciate the fact that he will be addressing this matter with the Head of Electricity directly.
Mt Krish Govender said that all there food stuffs are going bad and it is worrying that most of us have already purchased our monthly meat products. We pray that the electricity department heed our calls for a more efficient service.
