Minority Front National Member of Parliament Mr. Roy Bhoola after a thorough evaluation, voted against the Information Bill in the National Assembly.
In analyzing the Bill Bhoola said the Minority Front was extremely concerned that it was not isochronized with the changing times of our democracy and the ordinary grass roots on the ground. It hampered the progress of practicing an open democracy.
We support the freedom of the press and strongly believe that journalism should be based on the principles of impartiality.
The MF will not support any piece of legislation that undermines the practices of our Supreme law of our country, the National Constitution. The Bill in its current form violates people’s rights, disclosure of information and good governance. No country has such ridiculous practices.
The Leader of the Minority Front, Mr. A Rajbansi has always spoken out against fraud and corruption, said Bhoola and we must be mindful that the protests of Anna Ansari in India to rid corruption has led to many Parliamentarians and members of government to jail, and the MF has highlighted in Parliament that we must give the Hawks a blank cheque to clean up fraud and corruption.
The MF is concerned that at local municipalities where fraud and corruption is rife and there is a continuous service delivery protest, municipal workers are in a predicament. They would not divulge and expose fraud and corruption resulting in that they might be victimized, some have even laid down their lives and all of this will contribute towards lack of service delivery for the poor.
